Originally installed as a multichannel soundscape for Closeness by Ana Cvorovic for Refuse: Refuge: Re-fuse at Koppel Project, Baker Street London 2016

The installation space was a narrow and long bank vault, with thick concrete wall.

The soundsystem was installed discretely using 4 active speakers and a small solid state playback device.

Ana's original brief suggested a sense of an 'elsewhere' that was unclear, broken and dark, yet whistful and reflective.

The soundscape was set to a low level, so as to feel embedded in the tone of the room.

A component of the sound was a bedsheet being swiftly whipped every few minutes to cut through the atmosphere. This had a shocking impact on visitors, as the development of the original soundscape over the course of 20 mins is very steady, but they reported not actively being aware of sound, yet feeling emotionally overwhelmed whilst being in the room.
